Survival heating and cooking

There are many potential issues that can arise during a survival situation. There are also many issues that will come about whether or not you find yourself in a survival situation. One of the absolute needs that everyone must address regardless of the situation in which you find yourself is fuel for the body, most commonly known as food. What complicates food preparation in an emergency or survival situation is a lack of cooking methods that are readily available. If the power is out then there is no electricity to use an electric stove, oven, toaster, microwave, etc. Even if a gas stove is available it may not be a viable option due to the dangers of doing so after a natural disaster. This leaves the option of an independent system such as a camp stove, backpacking stove, BBQ grill, or similar type of system. Any of these are likely to be good options for a home or base camp but because of their bulk, they are not good options for a bug out bag or vehicle kit.

So if your bugging out or staying put you need to know your options for keeping yourself warm and for cooking, if your staying put a rocket stove is a good option it also has its use on a smaller scale if your bugging out if you don’t need much in the way of keeping warm the small fuel in a can will do the trick for some light cooking.  Fuel for cooking and heating is important to stock pile, you can never have to much and if for some reason you have to much you can certainly do some bartering for items that you need. Another thing to keep in mine is that during a long term crises some people may get, for lack of a better term get deadly and forget there manners and become nothing more then animals and most cooking will let people know that food might be nearby. One way to cook and keep it a bit more secret would be to have a solar oven, no fumes to carry through  the air.
